Whisky Drink Recipes Southern Comfort

What is Southern Comfort?
I think it was originally a flavored bourbon but the recipe has changed over the years.
I bought a bottle of 100 proof and it says liquer on it. I thought liquers were cordials, or roughly in the 21% range.
I thought SoCo was a flavored or sweetened whiskey, but my girlfriend says it taste like rum (I disagree, i drink a lot of rums, lots of them and i see no similarity)
Regardless it makes an amazing smothered chicken in a smoker, oh man I can’t explain how good it is.
But honestly, what the hell is Southern Comfort??
Mix it with hot apple cider ![]()
If you’re gonna smother a chicken, mix it 50/50 with your favorite barbecue sauce, I can’t explain how amazing it tastes.
Anyone saying it is whiskey is flat out wrong. It is a whiskey based liqueur.
Liqueurs are sweetened cordials, not distilled spirits. Other examples of whiskey based liqueurs are American Honey by Wild Turkey, or Yukon Jack. That’s not to say that they can’t pack a wallop – they can be quite high in alcohol content, but they are still different things.
SoCo is a peach flavored, whiskey based liqueur.
