Avocado Favorites In Puerto Vallarta
With a bit of help, you can find some of the most taste-tempting, palate-pleasing guacamole in Puerto Vallarta. The stellar attraction in this local dish is, of course, avocado (look closely around your Puerto Vallarta vacation rental and you might see them in their wild and natural state, growing on trees). At first glance, they might seem more a curiosity than a temptation, but wait . . .
Skin deep
That old saying about judging a book by its cover was never more true than in the case of the avocado (aguacate, in Spanish). Look at the somewhat unlovely exterior of this unique berry, and you might be inclined to pity the poor thing. Peel away that rough skin, though, and you’ll find a cool, smooth delectable fruit that works magic in a variety of dishes. Among the more well known is guacamole, a savory blend of avocado, tomato, onion, lime juice and spices.
Conversation can become heated when folks start to talk about the “best guacamole” in town; no doubt, the chef at your Puerto Vallarta vacation rental has a super-secret recipe reserved for favored guests. Nonetheless, the online community has voiced its opinion, the votes are counted, and this is how local restaurants stack up for their guacamole.
- Margarita Grill gets the best reviews, by far. The guac chef will bring all the ingredients to your table and assemble a dish just the way you like it. Feel free to ask for extra chile or cilantro, or cut back on the onions; it’s your call, up to a point. The salsa is good, too. The restaurant, at Piňo Suarez 321 in Colonia Emiliano Zapata, offers a full menu.
- Maria Gallo, at 558 Morelos just behind the Malecón, also gets good reviews, and it’s not only the guacamole that earns kudos. Guests report that all the food here is good. It’s very affordable and the margaritas go down pretty easy.
- El Barracuda deserves mention for folks who prefer their guacamole smooth and creamy rather than in chunky salad form. Located at Paraguay 1292, on the beach near the end of the Malecón, seafood dishes are the restaurant’s specialty, and if past diners are right, they know how to use spices to good effect.
- Pipi’s (Guadalupe Sanchez 804) is a popular tourist stop that gets mixed reviews. Some say the guacamole is good and the drinks are cold but the rest of the menu doesn’t measure up to other restaurants.
