Why do bartenders in Minnesota use grenadine in a Tom Collins?
Ever since I got to Minnesota I have found that, whenever I order what used to be my favorite drink, a Tom Collins, a bartender uses grenadine. I have gotten in arguments with bartenders here over this, and they insist all Tom Collins are made with grenadine, but if you check any bar recipe it says nothing of the sort. If I wanted grenadine I would order a Shirley Temple, and I have since stopped ordering the drink here at risk of destroying my taste buds. Is this a Minnesota or Midwest thing? Are they getting bad instruction from the ripoff bartending schools they attended? Help me figure this out!
I never heard of a Tom Collins with grenadine, but then I’ve never been to Minnesota.
